As we near the longest day, 21st December now is the time to find deep rest and stillness.
If we look to the trees in winter, we see the leaves have done their job and have fallen away. The tree has done all its work and goes into deep rest. It is as though everything has been accomplished and is complete. There is a lot of wisdom in this and if we take the advice from nature, we too must come back to ourselves, find time to be still and listen to our bodies.
“Christmas can end up being a busy time for many, with social events, managing family and travelling, time is needed to come inwards and take deep care.”
In Shiatsu we use a diagnosis system called the Five Transformations, it is a beautiful way of looking at everything in our lives. At this time of the year, we are in the time of Water. This mimics nature in the way that we must act as though there is nothing to gain and all is complete. You may say 'but its Christmas, I have to work, theres loads to do'. But I encourage my clients that even if there is busyness around you, find that one minute in the car to breathe, notice your body and all it is doing for you. Or when picking up that cup of tea to really bring your attention of the miracle that your holding your cup.The mind can run away with itself if left to its own devices. Come back, be present and look within.
